AC Black Flag Resynced Has DLC Ideas But Freedom Cry Is Uncertain

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced just crossed 3 million copies sold in roughly a week, and Ubisoft Singapore is already fielding questions about what comes next. Game director Richard Knight went on record with YouTuber JorRaptor to address the DLC question directly, and the answer is both encouraging and carefully hedged.

What Knight actually said about DLC

Here's the lowdown: Knight confirmed that creative momentum exists inside the studio. "I know some folks on the team have DLC ideas," he said, before immediately adding the caveat that those ideas need to be balanced against future plans and continued work on the core game. That is a real acknowledgment, not a PR deflection, but it is also a long way from an announcement.

The key here is the framing around Edward Kenway himself. Knight described Kenway as the "heart and soul of the original game" and suggested there could be more story worth telling with the character. Any DLC, if it materializes, would almost certainly keep that focus intact rather than branching out to secondary characters.

Why Freedom Cry is not on the horizon

Fans hoping for a Freedom Cry revival will want to temper expectations significantly. Knight was direct: "I can't really say anything as to a Freedom Cry. We've got our hands full with this game right now. Freedom Cry, it's not a small thing either."

That last part matters. Freedom Cry was not a short side story in the original Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It ran roughly 6 to 8 hours on its own, with Adéwalé carrying a distinct narrative and setting far removed from Kenway's Caribbean adventures. Rebuilding that in the Resynced engine, with the same level of care applied to the base game, would be a substantial undertaking. Knight is not ruling it out permanently, but the team is not in a position to commit to it right now.

important
Knight's comments are not a confirmation of any DLC. The team is actively prioritizing post-launch updates, New Game Plus, and fan-requested quality-of-life improvements before any expansion content gets greenlit.

The post-launch plate is already full

Before any DLC conversation gets serious, Ubisoft Singapore has a checklist of live priorities. The first major Title Update has already landed, addressing 30fps cutscene issues on PC and removing unintended double-jumping. New Game Plus is confirmed and described as sitting at the top of the team's list. The team is also working on an option to hide the blowpipe, a small but vocal community request.

That is a meaningful amount of post-launch work running in parallel. DLC development on top of all that would stretch resources, which is likely why Knight is being careful not to overpromise.

The base game already added a significant amount of new content beyond the visual and mechanical overhaul. Three new officers with dedicated questlines, expanded Hideout features, additional island discoveries, and 8 end-game missions against a pirate hunter all shipped at launch. If you want a full breakdown of how long it takes to work through all of it, the how long to beat guide for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has the numbers laid out clearly.

What this means for players watching the roadmap

The honest read here is that Ubisoft Singapore has earned enough goodwill with 3 million sales to take its time. There is no pressure to rush a DLC announcement, and Knight's measured tone suggests the studio is being deliberate rather than reactive.

What most players miss in these early post-launch windows is that the roadmap rarely gets finalized until the team sees how the community engages with existing content. The new questlines and end-game missions are still fresh. Player behavior over the next few months will probably shape what kind of DLC, if any, actually gets built.

For now, the priority is a stable, well-supported base game. If you are just getting started or planning your next run, the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced guides hub has everything you need to get the most out of what is already there.
