Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds version 1.042 drops on August 4, and the headline change is one that solo hunters have been waiting for: all 26 Event Quests that previously locked you out unless you were online can now be played fully offline.

What the online wall actually looked like before

Prior to this patch, accepting Event Quests and Challenge Quests required an active internet connection at the Quest Counter. That meant hunts like the Special Assignment: Slay Gogmazios, Freedom from Solitude, and The Dreamer's Stairway were completely off the table if your connection dropped or you simply preferred hunting solo without being online. For a game that already offers a strong single-player experience, that restriction felt oddly punishing.

The patch fixes that across the board. All 25 currently available Event Quests and Challenge Quests now accept offline play, and the limited-time event quest Just What the Doctor Ordered gets a permanent spot in the roster on top of that. No more babysitting your router just to run a timed hunt.

tip
The event quest list at the Quest Counter has also been reorganized so available quests appear at the top, which is a small but genuinely useful quality-of-life change if you're jumping between active quests frequently.

The Prologue Demo connection

The other major addition in 1.042 is save transfer support for the upcoming Prologue Demo, which launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on August 5. The transfer process is straightforward: launch the full game while no existing full-version save data is present, and the game will pull your Prologue Demo progress over.

Capcom hasn't detailed exactly what carries over from the demo, but the feature is clearly aimed at players jumping into Monster Hunter Wilds for the first time through the Prologue Demo before committing to the full purchase.

Bug fixes worth knowing about

Beyond the offline quest changes, 1.042 addresses a handful of issues that have been quietly annoying players. The Arch-tempered Arkveld fix is probably the most gameplay-relevant: certain attack effects that should spread in four directions were being redirected by terrain into unintended angles, which could catch hunters completely off guard. That's now corrected.

The Sword and Shield fix is another one to note. Players couldn't place traps through a radial menu shortcut immediately after activating Focus Mode while weapons were drawn, which is the kind of thing that costs you a clean capture at exactly the wrong moment.

There's also a fix for a skill interaction bug where players who received enhanced Synthetic Shield or Synergy effects via another player's Resonance II set bonus could no longer receive the normal (non-enhanced) versions of those skills once the enhanced effects expired. Multiplayer builds relying on those skills should behave correctly now.

On the technical side, Capcom is rolling out measures to reduce stuttering for players running a frame rate cap with NVIDIA DLSS enabled, which has been a known pain point in the PC version.

What's coming next

The August 4 patch lands one day before the Prologue Demo goes live, which is clearly intentional timing. Monster Hunter Wilds is also receiving a permanent price drop on August 6 alongside new DLC bundles, so the next two weeks represent a genuine on-ramp moment for new players.

For hunters already deep in the endgame, the offline Event Quest support is the practical win here. If you want to make the most of the Gogmazios content and updated quest access, the Monster Hunter Wilds Update 4 complete guide covers the Artian Weapon upgrades and armor transcendence changes in full detail. The full Monster Hunter Wilds guide collection is also worth bookmarking as the Prologue Demo brings a wave of new hunters into the fold.
