Palworld Fortnite Crossover Looks Likely as Pokemon Stays Away

Epic Games added Palworld to Fortnite's in-game survey, and Pocketpair's publishing head followed up with a cryptic post about Pal skins. The timing is hard to ignore.

Palworld Fortnite Crossover Looks Likely as Pokemon Stays Away

Two things happened within 24 hours of each other this week, and together they paint a pretty clear picture. Epic Games quietly added Palworld to Fortnite's in-game survey, the same tool Epic has used in the past to test player interest ahead of crossover skins going live. Then Pocketpair head of publishing and communications John "Bucky" Buckley posted a question to Palworld fans asking which Pal creature they'd want to see get a skin, phrased with so many disclaimers it almost confirmed something is in the works. A Fortnite x Palworld collab is looking very likely.

Bucky's post said everything without saying anything

Back in January, Bucky publicly nudged Epic Games on social media, writing "If you ever want to put Palworld in Fortnite just reach out hehe" with a hopeful emoji. That post sat out there for months. Then this week, Epic's survey activity surfaced, and within hours Bucky was back online asking fans: "Theoretically, hypothetically, conceptually, and spiritually...if, with absolutely no promise of it being realized or coming to fruition ever, but if...capital I and capital F...IF...any of the new Pals in 1.0 were to get a skin, which would it be?"

He did not mention Fortnite by name. He did not have to.

Fortnite's in-game survey has a track record here. Titles that appear in those polls have a habit of showing up as skins shortly after. The survey is not a guarantee, but it is a signal, and combined with Bucky's post, the signal is loud.

Why the timing lines up with Fortnite's current direction

Fortnite's current season has leaned hard into creature-collecting gameplay through its Sprites mechanic, which lets players capture and trade creature-like companions. That addition has driven a noticeable bump in player numbers. Epic also announced this week that it would be spotlighting player-made games built around its Sidekicks feature, another pet-adjacent system.

The key here is that Palworld's core identity, catching and working alongside creature companions, maps naturally onto systems Fortnite already has in place. A crossover would not require Epic to build something new from scratch. The hooks are already there.

Reliable Fortnite leakers have also pointed to the next season being heavily gaming crossover-themed, with Sonic, Kingdom Hearts, and Persona reportedly among the franchises joining. If that framing holds, Palworld would fit right in. Check the full Fortnite x Star Wars May 2026 roadmap to get a sense of how Epic has been stacking its collab calendar lately.

tip
Fortnite's in-game survey has previously surfaced titles before their crossover skins went live. Palworld appearing in that survey this week is the clearest signal yet that a collab is being considered.

Nintendo's long absence is the other half of this story

Fortnite has crossed over with an enormous list of gaming franchises. Resident Evil, Street Fighter, God of War, Halo, PlayStation and Xbox mascots, the list goes long. The one major holdout has always been Nintendo.

Epic reportedly explored a Nintendo partnership during Fortnite's peak years, when it was landing Kratos, Aloy, and Master Chief as skins. Nintendo passed, reportedly uncomfortable with its characters appearing on rival hardware. That reluctance has never changed. Pokémon remains absent from Fortnite despite years of obvious crossover potential, and nothing suggests that position is softening.

That absence creates a gap. Palworld, which launched into early access in early 2024 and hit full 1.0 release earlier this month, occupies a creature-collecting space that Pokémon has left empty in Fortnite. More than 40 million players have tried Palworld since its early access launch, and the 1.0 update has brought a fresh wave of players back to Steam.

Pocketpair's legal situation adds a layer of complexity

Here's the thing: Palworld is not without complications. The Pokémon Company and Pocketpair are still in the middle of an ongoing patent dispute. The 1.0 update quietly redesigned several Pals to distance them visually from certain Pokémon, though Pocketpair declined to comment on those changes. A judgment in the case is expected later this year.

Whether that legal backdrop affects any Fortnite deal is unknown. Epic has worked with studios in messier situations before. But it is worth watching, especially given that a Fortnite collab would put Palworld's creature designs in front of an enormous audience at exactly the moment the legal case is being decided.

Pocketpair has priced Palworld at $29.99 and confirmed it will not raise that price, calling the game's success "beyond our wildest dreams." The studio is clearly in growth mode, and a Fortnite crossover would be a significant visibility boost.
