Cold River Games Partners with PlayPark

Cold River Games has officially signed a publishing deal with PlayPark to bring its upcoming action RPG Crystalfall to players across Southeast Asia. The partnership marks a major step for the Swedish studio as it prepares for the game's Early Access release, currently planned for early 2026. The collaboration will begin at Gamescom Asia 2025 in Thailand, where attendees can play an updated demo and try out the newly revealed Technomancer class.

Cold River Games Partners with PlayPark

PlayPark, a subsidiary of Asphere Innovations PLC, is a well-established name in the Southeast Asian gaming market. The publisher brings over two decades of experience and a track record that includes more than 160 released titles and a community exceeding 180 million registered users.

The new partnership ensures that Crystalfall will have regional support, including localized operations, community management, and marketing tailored for audiences in countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The PlayPark deal is designed to help the game reach one of the fastest-growing ARPG communities in the world.

Technomancer at Gamescom Asia 2025

The Technomancer class will make its first public appearance at Gamescom Asia 2025, offering players a look at a new combat style. The character is a crow-human hybrid who channels a force known as Aether through steampunk-inspired staves. This new addition joins two previously revealed classes: the Gunner, a fox-like ranged fighter, and the Knight, a lion-human hybrid specializing in close-range melee combat.

Together, the three classes form the foundation of Crystalfall's Early Access launch lineup. Cold River Games has stated that each class is designed with its own talent tree and progression path, giving players freedom to experiment with different builds and combat approaches. Cold River Games plans to launch Crystalfall in Early Access during early 2026.

The studio says this version will include five acts, a full quest system, multiplayer support, and localization in 12 languages. The Early Access build will be free to play, allowing players to test the game's core mechanics and offer feedback throughout development. The team intends to use the Early Access phase to fine-tune balance, polish core systems, and gather community insights before moving toward a full release.

Crystalfall Inspired by Classic ARPGs

Crystalfall takes place in a post-apocalyptic world reshaped by the impact of a mysterious asteroid. The disaster scattered powerful crystal shards across the planet, mutating wildlife and fueling a new wave of steampunk technology. Players step into the role of hybrid convicts navigating these dangerous zones, scavenging for loot and uncovering the mysteries behind the crystals.

The game uses an isometric perspective inspired by classic ARPGs, featuring fast-paced combat and randomized dungeons. Every dungeon changes layout upon reentry, and skills are obtained as loot drops with randomized upgrade trees. This system encourages players to experiment with unique combinations of abilities and items to suit their preferred playstyle.

Progression in Crystalfall centers around an interconnected talent tree, deep loot systems, and a flexible skill design. Players can trade items through a peer-to-peer system, join guilds, and participate in multiplayer content, both in co-op and solo play. Seasonal resets, referred to as Nexus events, periodically refresh the game world and introduce new content while maintaining lore continuity. These resets encourage players to revisit builds and try new strategies with each update.

Cold River Games Raised $2 Million

In July 2025, Cold River Games raised $2 million in a funding round led by Beam Investments, with contributions from Partnerinvest Norr, CoinFund, Avalanche Foundation, and A100X. The funding will help the studio complete core development and prepare for the 2026 Early Access release.

CEO Åke André said the investment came at a critical time when funding for independent studios has become increasingly competitive. He noted that securing backing from Swedish and international investors provided much-needed stability for the team's long-term plans.

While Cold River Games has not detailed how blockchain will be implemented, the studio has acknowledged that web3 elements may play a role in supporting the in-game economy. The goal is to enhance item trading and security without disrupting the player experience. The studio emphasized that blockchain integration will not interfere with core gameplay and will remain optional for players who prefer a traditional experience.

Over 20,000 Wishlists on Steam

Since its reveal, Crystalfall has steadily gained traction online. The game currently sits at over 20,000 wishlists on Steam and maintains an active Discord community with more than 12,000 members. A group of around 100 community ambassadors has been providing feedback during early testing phases, helping shape key aspects of gameplay balance and class design.

Cold River Games attributes this growth to the game's blend of classic ARPG mechanics with a fresh setting and strong visual identity. The studio's 23-person team includes veterans from Grinding Gear Games, Paradox Interactive, and Fatshark, developers known for games like Path of Exile, Stellaris, and Warhammer: Vermintide.

Final Thoughts

With Gamescom Asia 2025 approaching, Cold River Games is entering a pivotal stage in Crystalfall's development. The partnership with PlayPark ensures that the game will reach a wide audience across Southeast Asia, while the studio continues to refine its core systems ahead of the 2026 Early Access release.

Players attending the event in Thailand from October 17 to 19 will be among the first to experience the Technomancer class and new content firsthand, marking a major milestone for both Cold River Games and its upcoming title.
