Onchain Heroes will soon be returning with the launch of Season 2, marking the game’s most significant update to date. Developed by Skarly, a former contributor to Wolf Game, Onchain Heroes is a fully on-chain idle RPG built on Abstract Chain, an Ethereum Layer 2. The game continues to develop its web3 infrastructure with transparent, provably fair mechanics powered by Proof of Play’s VRF technology. Season 2, titled “Dragma,” will introduce a new narrative threat, gameplay reset, and strategic challenges that build on the foundation established in Season 1.

About Onchain Heroes

Onchain Heroes is a fully on-chain idle RPG built on the Abstract Chain, an Ethereum Layer 2 network. Unlike many other web3 games, every battle, transaction, and reward is recorded on-chain, ensuring that players maintain complete ownership of their in-game assets. Access to Onchain Heroes is currently limited to those who hold a Genesis Hero NFT, allowing them to participate in battles and earn rewards through strategic gameplay.

The game revolves around the $HERO token, an ERC-20 utility token that serves multiple functions within Onchain Heroes. Players use $HERO to pay entry fees for battles and dungeons, upgrade their heroes, purchase in-game cosmetics, and unlock exclusive rewards. Tokens can be earned by completing missions, engaging in battles, and ranking on the leaderboard. The competitive structure encourages players to strategize their gameplay and maximize their earnings throughout the season.

Dragma: A New Threat in the Onchain Universe

Season 2 will introduce Dragma, a powerful new antagonist created from the collapse of broken timelines. Dragma consumes $HERO, the core energy resource in the Onchain Heroes universe, and now poses a direct threat to the game’s ecosystem. The storyline sets the stage for a more complex battle system, where players must prepare for a final confrontation against this new World Boss. Dragma’s invasion signals a shift in focus from passive play to active strategy, requiring players to strengthen their heroes and defend the game world.

Gameplay Reset and Entry Requirements

With the impending start of Season 2, all Genesis Heroes reset to Level 1, offering all players a level playing field. To participate, players must own two NFTs: a Genesis Hero and a Weapon. These are available for purchase on secondary marketplaces such as Magic Eden and OpenSea. While optional items like Genesis Rings and $HERO tokens can enhance gameplay, they are not required for entry. The season is divided into two distinct phases, beginning with a focus on resource gathering and leading into more intensive combat.

Proof of Play Integrates with Onchain Heroes

Phase 1: Battles Against Dragma’s Underlings

Phase 1 is active at the season’s launch and involves staking a hero and weapon for a minimum of six hours to engage with Dragma’s Underlings. Players earn $HERO tokens based on the total damage dealt, which depends on the hero’s level and the weapon’s Sharpness and Durability. This system combines fixed rewards with bonus incentives, and performance varies based on a player's gear and leveling choices. The token-earning model encourages consistent participation and gear optimization.

Leaderboard Points and Strategic Play

The leaderboard system returns with a renewed emphasis on player effort rather than passive gains. Players can earn Leaderboard Points (LBP) by leveling heroes, sharpening or repairing weapons, minting items, and performing high-risk activities such as "Unknown Leveling" or remixing gear. These actions provide competitive advantages, and those who rank highly by the end of the season can earn rewards including Genesis Rings, $HERO tokens, and unique in-game items. Additionally, Abstract XP will track a player’s broader progress across the Abstract blockchain ecosystem.

Phase 2: The World Boss Challenge

Approximately three to four weeks after launch, Phase 2 will begin, introducing the battle against Dragma as the World Boss. These encounters are designed to be more difficult and carry greater risk. There is no level cap in this phase, but heroes can be permanently lost in combat, which increases the importance of strategic planning in both leveling and equipment choices. This phase also introduces rare loot drops, new crafting materials, and additional mechanics that allow for fine-tuning gear and hero performance. Further details on crafting are expected to be released closer to Phase 2’s debut.

Upgrades to the Gacha Zone

Season 2 will also feature an enhanced Gacha Zone, where players can acquire and upgrade weapons. This includes pulling random weapons, remixing two items to create a stronger one, or minting new gear using $HERO tokens. These processes are integral to the game loop, as improved weapons translate into better battle outcomes and higher rankings on the leaderboard. The Gacha system remains a core part of how players build and customize their strategy over the course of the season.

Onchain Heroes and the Future of Web3 RPGs

Onchain Heroes continues to build on its web3 foundation by maintaining a fully on-chain gameplay model. All actions, battles, and rewards are recorded on-chain, ensuring transparency and fairness. The game utilizes verifiable randomness and a token economy that encourages strategic participation. During Season 1, players engaged in leveling and dungeon battles, earning $HERO tokens and burning half of the token supply to maintain economic balance. Season 2 will expand on these mechanics with more depth and higher stakes.
