Chapter 7 Season 3 (Runners) is still live, but the leaks for what comes next are already stacking up fast. Prominent Fortnite leaker HypeX posted on July 21 that Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is expected to carry a full "Gaming Legends" theme, built almost entirely around crossovers with other video game franchises. The list of leaked and confirmed collabs is already substantial.
What the leaks are actually saying
HypeX split the collabs into two tiers: those already leaked or confirmed, and those still at the rumour stage. The confirmed side includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Kingdom Hearts, Vampire Survivors, Ember & Blade, Kernel Hearts, and Kakao Games. Leaker SamLeaks added Persona to the mix on July 22, noting it further supported the gaming crossover season theory.
Still in the unconfirmed column: Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, and Marvel Tokon. HypeX was clear these are rumoured rather than locked in, which is worth keeping in mind before getting too attached to the idea of Mega Man dropping onto the island.
Season 4 is expected to launch shortly after Season 3 wraps on August 19.
A theme Fortnite has been building toward for years
Here's the thing: a dedicated Gaming Legends season isn't some stretch. Epic has been quietly building the infrastructure for exactly this kind of season for a long time. Fortnite already has its own Gaming Legends Series rarity tier, a specific label reserved exclusively for skins and cosmetics from other video game IPs.
Nearly 70 video game characters from outside Fortnite's own universe have already appeared as skins. The roster reads like a greatest-hits of gaming history: Solid Snake and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid, Master Chief from Halo, Kratos from God of War, Geralt from The Witcher, Lara Croft, The Doom Slayer, Ezio and Eivor from Assassin's Creed, plus six Street Fighter characters and five from Resident Evil. More recently, Alan Wake and Dave the Diver joined the list.
Most of these arrived as store additions rather than Battle Pass content. A season that puts gaming crossovers at the center of its identity, not just the item shop, would be a meaningful shift.
What this means for the current season
Chapter 7 Season 3 leaned heavily into Fortnite's own lore, though it still found room for John Wick in the Battle Pass. If Season 4 flips that formula and makes gaming crossovers the main event rather than the supporting act, the Battle Pass structure could look very different. Think less original characters, more iconic faces from across gaming history.
What most players miss is that the Gaming Legends Series has historically commanded premium pricing in the item shop. A whole season built around it suggests Epic is betting these IPs can drive serious engagement, not just occasional purchases.
