MapleStory Adds Credit Levels to Stop Botting

Nexon and its web3 division, Nexpace, have introduced a new Credit Level System designed to reduce botting and improve security within MapleStory N and the broader MapleStory Universe. The company identified that banning individual wallets based on bad behavior had limited effectiveness because players or bots could simply create new wallets and continue their activities. The Credit Level System aims to mitigate this by adding entry requirements for wallet usage and gameplay access.

Credit Level System Structure and Wallet Requirements

Under the new system, all new wallets or existing wallets that either have not played MapleStory N or currently face restrictions are assigned Credit Level 0. These wallets retain access to the MapleStory Universe marketplace but are restricted from playing MapleStory N. To gain the ability to play the game, a wallet must hold and maintain at least 10 NXPC tokens on the Henesys blockchain, a requirement designed to discourage the operation of large networks of bot accounts by adding a cost barrier.

The 10 NXPC tokens currently correspond to a value of about $9, an amount expected to be manageable for typical players operating a single wallet. A higher tier, Credit Level 2, is granted to accounts that have completed formal KYC verification. Wallets with Credit Level 2 are given permanent access to all MapleStory Universe services without the need to hold NXPC tokens. The system is designed to offer a verified and trusted user base more secure access to the platform’s features.

Additional Restrictions and Temporary Credit Levels

Further limitations have been placed on the Swap&Warp functionality, which allows players to convert the in-game NESO currency to NXPC tokens and move NXPC between the Henesys chain and the Avalanche C-Chain. Only formally registered accounts may perform these actions, reducing the risk of abuse from unverified wallets.

For existing users who created wallets before the system’s introduction on June 25, 2025, and who have played MapleStory N, a temporary Credit Level 1 status is assigned. This status allows continued access to all services while Nexon evaluates and potentially adjusts requirements for long-standing players.

Monitoring and Adjustments

Credit Levels are assigned based on the highest criteria met by an account. For example, a user verified under KYC does not need to meet the token-holding requirement. Users can check their Credit Level status on the MapleStory Universe website through the My Page overview section. Nexon also provides detailed FAQs and guides related to the Credit Level System and the updated Swap&Warp feature.

Final Thoughts

The Credit Level System reflects Nexon’s effort to stabilize the MapleStory Universe ecosystem by preventing the proliferation of malicious accounts and ensuring a more secure and verified player environment. By combining token-based requirements and KYC verification, the company aims to balance accessibility for legitimate users with effective deterrence against bots and abuse.
