Moonfrost, the cozy life-sim farming game with web3 elements, is steadily building up toward its long-awaited early access release. In its April 2025 development update, players were treated to several big reveals, including the debut of new gameplay mechanics, a revamped community wiki, and the first in-game items tied directly to the game’s evolving economy. With the early access phase just around the corner, the team is giving players a clearer look at what day-to-day life in Moonfrost might actually feel like, and what role the economy will play in it.

What is Moonfrost?

Moonfrost is a multiplayer life-sim adventure game that blends farming, crafting, building, and exploration with light RPG elements. Set in an award-winning beautifully stylized pixel-art world, players can grow crops, raise animals, befriend townsfolk, and uncover the mysteries of their surroundings, all while customizing their farms and characters.

While the core gameplay is designed to be accessible to everyone, Moonfrost also includes optional web3 features such as item ownership and digital rewards. These elements are integrated in a way that doesn’t interfere with the experience, ensuring both traditional and web3 players can enjoy the game on their own terms.

Moonfrost New Items Hint at Game Economy

The most interesting reveal in the April update comes in the form of new in-game items called Frost Workbenches and Frost Tools, which are specifically designed to support Moonfrost’s player-driven economy. They serve as functional tools tied directly to crafting, production, and potentially even trading.

The Frost Workbenches are multi-purpose stations used for crafting higher-level items, improving tools, and possibly producing goods for in-game marketplaces. These workbenches vary in size and rarity and are expected to play a major role in creating valuable materials once the economy system goes live. Meanwhile, Frost Tools are themed instruments players can use for tasks like mining, fishing, farming, and building. Their stylized appearance and potential rarity could hint at their future value within the player economy.

These economy-related additions suggest Moonfrost is taking its time to build a solid foundation before fully launching its trading systems. Instead of rushing to release a token or a half-baked marketplace, the team is focusing on the essentials such as crafting loops, item functionality, and fair progression. That’s a strong sign for players who value balanced gameplay over speculation.

Moonfrost's New Items Reveal Ties to Game Economy

Moonfrost's Web3 Journey

Moonfrost started exploring Web3 back in 2024 with the launch of the Frost Hunter License NFT, minted on the Ethereum blockchain. It gave holders early access to the game along with some in-game perks. More recently, in March 2025, the team partnered with OpenLoot to manage its NFT systems, including minting and trading. This lets the devs focus on building the game while OpenLoot handles the backend.

Final Thoughts

Moonfrost’s latest update shows steady progress toward shaping a more defined gameplay loop and long-term economy. The introduction of Frost Workbenches and Tools points to a slow but intentional build-up of systems that could support player-driven crafting and trading. With early access via Epic Games on the horizon (expected second half of May) and backend support from partners like OpenLoot, the team appears focused on laying a strong foundation rather than rushing to market. It’s a promising step for players interested in both the game’s design and its future direction.
