Palworld Panthalus Location and How to Catch - Palworld Zone

Pocketpair has a habit of making its best Pals the hardest to get, and Panthalus might be the most elaborate unlock yet. The giant legendary whale added in Palworld 1.0 doesn't just require a tough boss fight to catch. It requires players to complete an entire scavenger hunt first, tracking down four glowing bones scattered across the map before they can even summon the creature.

Here's the lowdown on why the community is talking about this one.

The quest that gatekeeps everything

The whole thing starts at the Ancient Civilization Researcher on the Deserted Islet, a small landmass sitting in the channel north of the Windswept Hills, between Ice Wind Island and the southern ruins of the Astral Mountains. Speak to them and you'll pick up a quest to collect four bones from whale skeletons spread across the world.

What most players miss is that the quest and the bone collection are completely independent. You can grab all four bones before you've ever spoken to the researcher, then hand them over in one visit. The order doesn't matter, which means efficient players can sweep the map first and skip the back-and-forth entirely.

The quest technically unlocks after the new 1.0 tower boss, but that's not a hard requirement. Any player strong enough to survive the biomes involved can go straight for the bones without touching the tower progression at all.

Four bones, four biomes

Each Echobone sits on a giant whale skeleton and emits a visible glow, making them relatively easy to spot once you're in the right area. The challenge is getting there.

  • Marine Echobone (124, -524): West of the Windswept Hills starting area, on the skull of the first whale skeleton you'll likely encounter. Straightforward fly-and-grab.
  • Silent Echobone (356, -111): Northeast of the Windswept Hills near the Altar of the Windcaller fast travel point. Head south past the Level 55 Jormuntide that patrols the area, then look for the glowing item on the lower section of the skeleton's back end.
  • Seafoam Echobone (-515, -545): Deep in Mount Obsidian territory. You'll want Level 2 Heat Resistance before going anywhere near this one. Travel to the Eternal Pyre Tower Entrance fast travel, then drop east over the cliff toward the lava pools. The skull faces you as you descend.
  • Tidewind Echobone (-265, 483): Far north in the Astral Mountains. Level 2 Cold Resistance is non-negotiable here. From the Land of Absolute Zero fast travel, head west and drop into the frozen lake below to find the skeleton.
tip
Stow your fire Pals before heading to Mount Obsidian and swap them back in before the Astral Mountains. The temperature resistance from Pals stacks with your armor, and you'll want every point of it.

Crafting the Echoing Flute and unlocking the fight

Once all four bones are collected, head back to the Ancient Civilization Researcher. They'll hand over the Faded Schematic, which unlocks the Echoing Flute recipe at any workbench. Craft it using the four bones, return to the researcher, and then interact with the glowing stone symbols nearby. That's what actually spawns the Panthalus encounter.

The whole sequence is more involved than any previous legendary Pal unlock in the game, and it's clearly intentional. Pocketpair wants Panthalus to feel earned.

What the fight actually demands

The Panthalus arena is almost entirely water with one small island in the center. Land-based Pals are dead weight here, full stop. The key here is bringing a high-level, fast-flying mount you can ride throughout the fight, since mobility is the main way to avoid Panthalus's attack patterns.

For weapons, a Plasma Cannon or Multi Guided Missile Launcher will do the heavy lifting. The fight has a 10-minute timer, so sustained damage output matters. The good news: once Panthalus's health hits zero, the catch is 100% guaranteed. No sphere RNG, no failed throws. You'll want to focus entirely on surviving and dealing damage rather than worrying about capture odds.

For players who want the full step-by-step breakdown with exact map coordinates and boss strategy, the Palworld 1.0 Panthalus capture and World Tree guide has everything covered in detail.

Panthalus sits at the end of what is genuinely the most quest-driven legendary encounter Palworld has shipped. Players who've been grinding toward 1.0's endgame content will find it's a fitting payoff. For everyone else, the Palworld guides hub is a solid starting point to get your progression in order before tackling the Echobone hunt.
