Suikoden Star Leap Japan launch date confirmed for August 7

Konami has confirmed that Suikoden Star Leap, the free-to-play mobile JRPG entry in the long-running Suikoden series, will launch in Japan on August 7 for Android and iOS. You can check out Order of the Sinking Star for more Suikoden content while waiting for Star Leap to reach your region. Global and PC (Steam) release dates remain unannounced.

Japan gets first access while the world waits

The staggered rollout was flagged back in June, when the development team confirmed the game would hit Japan first with global and Steam versions to follow on a separate timeline. That approach is now locked in. Japanese players on Android and iOS get access this week, while everyone else sits tight.

Here's the thing: this isn't unusual for mobile JRPGs targeting the Japanese market first, but Suikoden fans outside Japan have been waiting a long time for a new mainline entry. The lack of a simultaneous global release is going to sting for some.

What Star Leap actually is

Announced in 2025, Star Leap was designed from the start to bridge mobile and console-style play. The development team has been explicit about treating this as a full-fledged Suikoden entry, not a spinoff or a gacha-lite cash grab.

The game is set in Solar Year 453, four years before the events of the original Suikoden. You play as an unnamed protagonist from a lakeside village east of the Scarlet Moon Empire. When a group of mysterious enemies destroys your hometown, you and three companions, Hisui, Shirin, and Shapur, set out to rebuild it. That journey pulls you into a much larger conflict that reshapes history.

The series' signature feature is back in full force: 108 recruitable characters, including your starting party. Turn-based combat, a mix of light and dark storytelling, and the kind of deep character work the series built its reputation on are all present. This is Suikoden with a mobile delivery method, not a mobile game wearing a Suikoden costume.

The August 7 launch is Japan-only. The global version and Steam release do not have confirmed dates yet. Check back for updates as Konami makes further announcements.

The road to a global release

With the Japan launch now set, attention shifts to when the rest of the world gets access. The Steam page is already live, which signals the PC version is in active development rather than a distant consideration. Global mobile storefronts are similarly being prepared.

For series veterans and newcomers curious about the Suikoden universe, the strategy guides for related titles are worth checking out to get up to speed on the lore before Star Leap eventually arrives globally. If you're newer to the genre, browsing gaming guides for JRPG fundamentals won't hurt either.

Konami has not given a window for the global announcement, so the timeline between Japan launch and worldwide availability is genuinely unknown at this point. Keep an eye on official Suikoden channels for the next update.
